Global Wine and Spirits Competition (GWSC) is a new wine and spirits evaluation event held in Zagreb. In Business Club 5 at Sky Office Tower, spirits will be judged first from April 28 to 30, with samples already arriving from various parts of the world.
The quality of the evaluation at GWSC is guaranteed by the selection of judges, who are recognized experts with international licenses for assessing wines and spirits. Among them are Tobias Gorn from the United Kingdom, Arthur Nägele from Switzerland, Branko Drljača from Germany, Maria de la Peña from Spain, and Toshio Ueno from Japan.
Well-known names from Croatia include Gabrijela Brigljević, Dario Grabarić, Jure Andrijašević, Ante Lončarić, and Tomo Jakopović.
“The expertise and impartiality of the judges are a testament to the quality of each evaluation, and this was our guiding principle in their selection. We are bringing in judges from around the world because we want Zagreb to become a reference point for top distillate and wine producers. Only registered producers can apply for the competition, and applications for distillates are open until April 14,” says Robert Lukić, the competition organizer.
The first distillate evaluation is expected to receive over 300 samples. To win a bronze medal, a minimum of 85 points is required, silver requires 90, gold 95, while the prestigious Trophy title will be awarded to producers who score between 98 and 100 points.
The champion among distillates will be announced on May 5.
“We will announce the medal winners and champions among distillates on May 5, and all producers who win at least a bronze medal at GWSC will have the opportunity to market their products on our new webshop, which we are launching ahead of the evaluation,” the organizer adds.
The wine evaluation is scheduled for October. The exact date and location will be announced during the distillate evaluation in April.
